Zumba® Fitness Program provides relief to victims of apartment fire disaster

Tampa, FL, June 17, 2011 - FlavaFitness Studio

Local Zumba Instructor and resident of The Commons Apartments reaches out to the community to host a Zumba Bash in order to raise funds for the 15 families affected and provide awareness to other residents.

With a focus on fun and providing a party like atmosphere, Zumba® Fitness is the world’s largest – and most successful – dance-fitness program. This Latin inspired fitness party has set many industry trends and given a new meaning to the word “fitness”. These trends range from a complete clothing line to a full production Fitness Concert and even a Wii Video Game. But one trend that has meant the most to everyone involved is the trend of bringing people together for a good cause. Due to its fun nature, huge support by the people who participate in the program, and low overhead; Zumba classes and events have become a very successful fundraising tool. With over 100,000 instructors around the world funds have been raised for almost every cause.

So there is no surprise that when the news of a tragedy (like the apartment fire on the morning of June 14, 2011) hits the local Zumba community, they immediately begin to unite and coordinate charitable events. Firefighters were still on the scene fighting the blaze while Tampa Zumba Instructors and their students began networking to collect donations. “When I saw the fire I immediately knew I needed to plan a Zumba event to raise money for the victims,” said Jeni J, Zumba Instructor, owner of FlavaFitness Studio (a dance-fitness studio specializing in the Zumba Fitness program) and resident of The Commons. Within 24 hours donations were being collected and a Zumba Bash was scheduled.

It is the hopes of Jeni J and Debbie Fernandez (Community Manager of The Commons Apartment Homes) to raise funds for the 15 families who have lost their homes and all of their belongings while bringing the community together to lift the spirits for all residents who were a witness to it. Open to the public, the 2 hour dance-fitness party will also include educational information for residents and a toy drive for the children. It will be an outdoor event sure to be great fun for the entire family. Additional donations from members the Tampa Bay community who don’t wish to participate in the dance-fitness party may be brought to the event. The families directly affected consists of 14 adult women, 14 adult men, 6 female children ages 2 months – 17 years, 8 male children ages 3 – 17 years.
